Places of excursions in Salzburg

When Mum hops over the puddle in leather shoes, we jump in the middle with gumboots on! In Salzburg you can even have fun in the rain!

Hiking.

"We're not made of sugar" ... and hiking can be fun even in the rain. When walking over the Mönchsberg (Monk Mountain), you can hear the raindrops fall on the leaves and see squirels scurry over the paths. Then afterwards, enjoy a hot chocolate in the Café Tomaselli.

If being on the mountain is not enough, then go inside. At the Salt Mines in Dürrnberg by Hallein you can wear the real miners clothes to clatter through the mine which takes you from Salzburg to Bavaria and back again. Then ferry over the Salt Lake before sliding down wooden poles.

Museums.

On a warmer note we recommend the Haus der Natur (Natural Science Museum). Lifelike dinosaures, sharks swimming in circles, snakes dangling from branches, and lizards blinking through glass will make you forget the bad weather. The spaceship display is galactic!

The best time is obviously in the Toy Museum. Every Tuesday and Wednesday at 3pm the kids can enjoy a puppet show similar to Punch and Judy.

Whoever says that rain is dumb, was never in Salzburg!

Umbrellas and city guides for bad weather are available at the reception free of charge!
