If it rains

Welcome to Salzburg! It's raining but that makes you very fortunate to experience this city during a unique phenomena indigenous to Salzburg - the locals call it "Schnürlregen" and that means 'string rain', when the rain falls it looks like string and not individual drops.

The best things about the bad weather are the yummy pastries which I'm sure, were created to compensate for all the rain which falls here!

Equipped with your wet weather gear, a hat and a handmade umbrella from Kirchtag in the Getreidegasse, you are now ready to brave the elements and discover the city from the 'inside' with our wet weather tips.

  • A mountain of newspapers and a pot of tea or doffee in one of the traditional Salzburg Cafes. They are very popular during bad weather.
  • Shopping – visit your favorite shops and treat yourself to a piece of local handcraft!
  • Museums! Now you can go without a guilty conscience and there are plenty to choose from e.g. Mozart's Birthhouse, Mozart's Residence, the Rupertinum, Künstlerhaus, Carolino Augusteum or the Haus der Natur (Naturral Science Museum).
  • Wellies on, brollie in hand, there is nothing nicer than a stroll along the river Salzach. You will not get as wet under the thick canopy of leaves from the chestnut trees.
  • Nothing could be more romantic than a ride with horse and carriage, naturally covered. And you only have to see what you want to.
